P.B.L term 4

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then, make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because it was so fun making the table, we had to make it using  newspaper straw’s and a meter of tape.
In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

Reflection it was super fun and I hope we can to do something like this again!

My highlight from this PBL was  it was really fun and we took lot’s of pictures , I liked how we worked together .
Next time I would  do something easier because it cost's lots of money and we were down to the last day when we finished
making our candle's .

.P.B.L. our project based learning .

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas.  Culture is other peoples story like where are you from clothes and food .

Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read Maui  and the big fish .   I have written my own legend called/I retold the legend of Maui and the big fish in my own words.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection: i think we have all learnt to work together .

For our production I contributed by… i was a musician

I think the show might impact on others by… i think the show helps people to work together .

What I learned about working with others was… we can all come up with great ideas .

respect in our school

Not many people are showing respect to the teachers and school, they are drawing on tables, scratching windows and most of all not listing to the teachers . People need to treat other people the way they want to be treated . The teachers are getting really stressed from all the bad behave-yer the the students are showing . We need to stop all this bad behave-yer .

Students are constantly playing on there phones at end of day pack up, I do agree that people should be allowed to play on there phones at break time but not in class .

I think that people should stop dis-respecting the school, because I mean people should be great-full for what there'v got .

We should come up with lots of solutions like ...
Treat others the way we want to be treated
Respect our building by ... push chairs in to the table and stack chairs at the end of the day .

Do you respect the Buildings/Teachers?

Our learning focus for our project
based learning for this term is about cultural stories .

My grandmas old wedding ring that has been given to her from her mum, has been past on to dan my step dad who has gave it to my mum .

Every year on christmas we have a christmas brunch and we invite all our family and friends, we always have a giant turkey and lots of ham and much more food, drinks and activities like ping pong and tennis.

Outside the YMCA building is a mural showing a strong woman. The "Kaitaki" looks like she would watch over the building and the people inside. The artist is Fin Dac whose murals show beautiful women, with eye masks, who wear gorgeous clothes and elegant makeup. His style is called Urban Aesthetics, in which he combines the modern urban stencil art and traditional art of portrait.

The canterbury museum located at the entry to the Botanic gardens is a Christchurch icon, first opening its doors to the public on the 1 October 1870. Over time, the original building designed by architect Benjamin mountfort has evolved with additions made to house the ever-growing collection.

Christchurch is where me and my family grow up and we like it here .

That is my P.B.L / chch back story what's yours ?
