Info linc

Hard hitting statistics.
Poverty's extrem rates have been cut more than half since 1990. Would you like it if you were facing poverty? There are millions of people who make more than $1.25 a day and there are millions of people who make less than this. There are 682,500 people in our country that are facing poverty and 220,000 children facing poverty. %20 percent of people in the uk are facing poverty. How would you like to be part of poverty? It's a big problem in the world and we need to stop it! What would happen if we all helped to stop it! Please, do what you can to help.

Damage caused.
Lots of people are living on the streets and going hungry. Poverty is not just about food, it is also about warmth and people out of jobs and going homeless. When I say people are going out of jobs I mean that their boss can’t afford to pay them which means that they are running out of money. Lots of people have families and are facing these problems. Children are also facing problems by not having enough money for a good education and they can also starve.

challenge.
What if there was no poverty? What if we all did our part and helped others who are poor and can’t feed their families? There are lots of people and even children who are facing poverty. There are 1.6 billion people that are poor and homeless world wide and if we all donate some extra money that we don’t need we can help more than half of those people/children. Over the last 25 years, more than a billion people have lifted from poverty. People don’t need to be rich, they just need to be happy and healthy with a job that is fair and gives good pay. What if we made it so no one is poor? You can help by donating food, warm clothes and blankets.

Specify the problem.
The problem is that to many people, not to mention children are facing extreme poverty.  But the question that has not been solved is how do we solve poverty? So, how do We as students at St Francis lower the amount of people in poverty?  In order to do so we will need to work together.  Lets just pause and think about this… if we donate enough money then the people facing poverty will be able to buy a house, if we donate blankets then they will be warm in winter and won't have the risk of getting hypothermia and if we donate food they will not starve.

solution.
Imagen, if poverty was not a thing, it just didn't exist, what would that be like? If poverty did not exist then we would focus on other problems like world hunger and education children are receiving in some countries. It is unlikely that poverty won't be a problem but if it was then everyone would have a place to call home and would be able to afford food and warm clothes and blankets, not to mention the whole country would have enough money to build things like churches and hotels, most importantly, hospitals.

change.
We can do this, we can lower the amount of money we use for things we don’t need, now it is always good to treat yourself by buying something like candy or plushies once in a while but all the time is a no because if we have things like extra money, food or blankets we can give them to the less fortunate and that way you are able to buy your needs and help others. Another way that we can all help is by doing fundraisers and you can even cook a whole bunch of food and give it out to the less fortunate people and or children for free.

Call to action.
I will work, Please donate, please help. Those are words that you see on little hand held signs by homeless people, sad isn't it, sad to see people on the streets, sad to see children begging for food. Ask yourself, How do we as new zealanders help those in need? We can call friends and family members and ask them if they would help us do something like a fundraiser, it could be something simple like selling lemonade or even if you have any type of fruit trees.

Act together.
If we all help each other in the world then we can solve loads of problems in the world. If we as people stop and think about solutions to help others in need. Lots of people believe that someone else will take care of other people in need and they will just think about themselves, but what I believe is that if we work together then we can help way more people then only one could accomplish in the same amount of time. Yes I know that it is good to do things by yourself sometimes but that is only the small things.

Aims/Goals...
In 2030 we would be poverty free.
Everyone is positive.
Everyone has food to feed their families.
We will leave a perfect world for the children of the future.

Thank you for reading my blog this week, I am sorry, I have not added the big finish yet, What about my speech do I need to change?

Writing W2 T3.

For writing this week we had written a short story on Hansel and Gretel, here is my work...

It was dark, the ground was cold and slimy. Hansel and Gretel creeped through the depressing, dark, endless woods where the trees were damp and deadly. A rich scent of fresh, melted chocolate travelled past them as their mouths started to water. Hansel and Gretel decided to follow the sweet fragrance of candy. They paused as they waited nervously and silently until they made sure it was safe to carry on. The scent of delicious gingerbread is getting stronger, Hansel and Gretel fell deeply in love with the fragrance and lingered behind it. It was getting cold and dark. The two children keeped walking for ages. They became tired of lingering around and finally found a giant, freshly baked, gingerbread house.  All of a sudden, in the clearing, they detected a small house with a shiny, chocolate  roof, a long chimney and the selves of the windows were cream white where the windows were dark and dusty They knew they shouldn't touch the little house, however  sweet fruity candy canes lowered them closer. They knew they might get in trouble but the fresh scent of a chocolate caramel roof looked so delicious. “I’m nervous about this place”, whispered Gretel. “Don’t worry it will alright”, even though he knew their mother wanted them gone.

Without warning, a little, old, friendly lady appeared. She had a cheerful, gentle smile. Her hair was old and grey and she wore lots of bright colours.  “Come inside”, the little old lady said softly and welcomingly. Her voice was old but calming. She opened the creamy door with candy canes on the side. She squinted at the children as they walked inside. For she had short vision. “You may eat all of what you like”, she said in a cheeky voice. The house was made with delicious gingerbread, with all sorts of sugary treats, the house has a fresh, chocolatey scent to it. “So children, why are here?”, “We had gotten kicked out of our home because our mother and father were poor so we began to linger behind the delicious fragrance of your house”, Hansel and Gretel went on. The old lady grinds. The two children look around when, suddenly, the old lady grabs Hansel and locks him in a cage, just when Gretel tries to help save Hansel the woman locks a chain on Gretel while passing her a broom. Gretel had been forced to clean the house while Hansel was passest a mountain of sweets to fatten him up, but what this witch did not know was that the two children were tricking her by holding out a skinny bone each time she came to check on him so she thought he was not fattening up.

Thank you for reading my blog for this week, Did this help you at all? if not what do I need to change?

Reading W10.

Goal: Identify some text events and features, and discuss what they make the reader think about.

This week in reading we had to read a story and then we had to make a DLO answering these questions...

A screenshot of a part of the text - what does it make you think about - why?
Main Idea of the text, with at least 2 supporting details
Why the author wrote this text?

This is what I have created...

This week for maths we had to create a graph.
Today I will show you how to make a graph, first you are going to create a google sheet it looks like this...
Second you need to name the sheet by what data you are collecting. For intense task completion...

The third thing you NEED to do is collect data.

Once you have collected your data write it into your sheets.

Thank you for reading, Was this helpful?

Writing W5

For writing this week we had to create a short story, here is my work...

Hello, my name is Jane. I am 50 years old, I have lived through some hard times.
When I was 7 my parents got a devorse which made it special for me to see my dad, once in a while.
When I turned 13 I got a dog for my birthday, I named him Cody. Cody was a Maltese, he loved going
on walks and I loved spending time with him. I would always make sure that Cody was happy and that
he knew I loved him. Cody helped me through tough times and I am very grateful for him. My mother
was on her, having to take care of me. When I was 18, by the time of my mother's birthday I decided to
get her something as a big thank you for giving me Cody so I got her a cat. My mother loved her and
called her Fluffy, she loved my mother and my mother loved her to. Cody and Fluffy got along very well,
they love playing outside together. When I was 30 I had to give Cody to a elderly couple that I knew would
look after him, Cody was very old and calm, I cried all night.

Thank you for reading my story, I was sad but I hope you like it, comment, what should I change?

Reading W5.

Hello welcome back to my blog!

This week in reading we have a focus on challenging the text we are reading by questioning

the author and determining how authentic (true/real) the text is. We will then state our own

opinions on the text.

Here are the articles we had to read.

Should more emphasis be put on music & the arts?

Video games may help learning

Should children miss school for environmental protests?

Are E-scooters as awesome as we think?

We then had to create a DLO where we answered these questions...

  • What is the author's message/what are they trying to say?
  • Does the author explain this clearly? What phrases do they use?
  • How does this connect to what the author said earlier? Does this make sense to you?

Thanks for reading! do you think I did a good job?

Maths W4.

For maths this week we have been learning about...

We have been learning how to make a data graph, today I will teach you how to make a data graph.

the first thing you are going to need to know is....................................................................................

You need DATA!! haha, the first thing you are going to need to do is collect your data.

You need to go around and collect the data you need, for example if you were seeing what flavor

ice cream people liked out of the flavours you have put down.

After you collect all your data you are going to need to make a spreed sheet on your Chromebook.

After you made your spreed sheet you need to put all your data on there and then save it to your

google drive.

Thanks for reading! was this helpful? if you have any questions please comment.

Reading W3.

For reading this week we had to read some books about war, you know Anzac day.

I love Anzac day and I think that it is really good to celebrate it.

I am not saying that war is good, no definitely not good, but it is good to celebrate the soldiers that

It is important to celebrate  Anzac day because it shows that you are great full for

the soldiers that thought in war to protect our country.

Maths W7.

For maths this week we were focusing on doubling and halving, we had to make a poster on our understanding. Here is my work...

Do you think I did good, or if so, what did I do wrong?

Writing T2 W7.

For reading this week we had to write a short narrative that had 3 paragraphs in it. Here is my work...

Paragraph 1:

It is 3.00 and time for the children to go home, the bell rings and Jacob races to the gate and waits for his mum to come and pick him up. Jacob's mum pulls up. Hi Jacob mum shouts with the music up so loud that the whole school could hear. MUM! Jacob shouted back, TURN THE MUSIC DOWN! Mum turns down the music and Jacob jumps in. Hey sweetie how was your day? Good I guess, says Jacob. So um I Jacob, mum says in a voice like she was waiting for a reaction. What, I say? Well...I am going to buy you a new goldfish! a...a...goldfish? Yes, says mum, a goldfish, I thought since you love animals so much that you could get into the habit of fish.  Oh alright, sighs Jacob.  Mum and Jacob pull up to the pet store. First, said mum, you need to pick out a fish tank and decorations, you then need to get some water conditioner. OK, OK, shouts Jacob. Mum walks away looking at stuff for Jacobs aunt's guinea pig. Jacob grabs a trolley and walks slowly to the aisle.
Jacob grabs all of what he needs and goes home.

Paragraph 2

The next day…
Mum wakes Jacob up and they get ready to go back to the pet store. A while later they both jump into the car. Mum and Jacob pull up at the pet store and walk in through the door. Jacob, says mum, go and pick out a fish. OK MUM, Jacob shouted. Don't shout Jacob, whispered mum. Jacob walks up to the aisle with all the fish. There are all sorts of fish but what to choose from. Jacob spots a bright goldfish shimmering in the light. MUM, shouted Jacob. WHAT DID I SAY!, mum shouted back. Sorry, said mum. Mum and Jacob go home with the goldfish in a bag. Jacob set up the tank yesterday so he put the fish in his new tank. Hey mum, says Jacob, what should I name him? Actually, said mum, the worker said he is a she. Oh, said Jacob. Name her Goldie, said mum, OK i will, whispered Jacob. Jacob leaves the room. The cat walks in. The cat's name is Sammy. Sammy walks up to the fish tank.
There is no lid on the tank so Sammy puts a paw in the tank and tries to grab Goldie, Goldie hides under a shipwreck decoration. Sammy tries to swipe at Goldie but Goldie darts across the tank. Suddenly Sammy finally grabs Goldie and throws her on the floor. Goldie is unable to breath.

Paragraph 3

Jacob walks into the room and see’s Goldie on the floor. Jacob then turns his head over to Sammy and shouts
SAMMY WHAT HAVE YOU DONE! Sammy runs out the door and Jacob runs and gets mum. Oh dear, whispers mum.
Jacob pouts and says, what do we do with her now? We might have to flush her down the toilet, say mum.
OK, wipers Jacob. Mum, Jacob walks to the toilet well holding Goldie. Jacob puts her into the toilet.  It’s OK Jacob I will
take you back to the pet store tomorrow OK, said mum. WAIT!shouts Jacob, what, what, says mum. She is OK. Goldie starts
breathing and she starts to swim around. Jacob picks up Goldie and puts her back into her tank Goldie is happy to be
alive but Sammy got put outside.

Thanks for reading, what was your favourite part?

PBL term 1 2020, collaboration reflection.

This term for our PBL we got put into groups. The people in my group are, Kade, Mia, Willem and

Alexis. For our PBL we are making a game called Knock Down! our group is hard to work with but

we are almost there and finished. I think that our group needs to work on focusing and team work.

When we are working on our fun bags,  Me and Mia are the ones doing the most work because the rest

of the group gets detracted, but recently the rest of the group have stepped up and helped and now we

are almost done.

A new start to a new year.

Hello, It's me Lexus, this is the first blog that I have written in 2020, oh, yeah, witch reminds me...
Its 2020! At school this year I have high hope's and expectations about me, myself and I. My hope's for this year are to pay more attention in class, to learn more into subjects like maths. I also want to get my work to a high standard and to get it done and up on task completion before the due date.

This year I am looking forward to is meeting new people and making new friends that may understand me more and and are kind to others and of course great learners and roll models. I am also looking forward to helping and empowering others with their learning and their level of kindness around the school or even just in general.

In the holidays I did lots of fun stuff with my Mum, my sister's Taylor and Olivia, my brother Jaxson and my cousins, Destiny, Jake, Makayla and Zach and of course my auntie Hallie and my uncle named Connor, he is 15 and he is staying with his sister my other auntie Hallie. Throw out the holidays we went to 3 movies, Spies in disguise, Do little and one more that I can never remember. We also went to Sumner and few times and had a barbecue and we went way on in the waves with our bogie bods and we went super fast on them. in the holidays one of my cousins named Jake stayed the night and then Jaxson went to stay the night with them. And then 2 times we stayed at their house for the day, it was really fun.

What did you do in the holidays?

Reading-Human rights.

Hi, today in reading we created a poster on human rights and why it is important to have them.
We each created a poster on human rights after listening to a unfair story about the people in west Papua and how they work so hard but only get payed a little amount of money. Here is my poster.
Do you think that it is important to have human rights?

Maths - area.

Goal: use a verity of strategy's to calculate the area of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles.
Hi, today in maths we made a google drawing with some area questions on it. We had to get a buddy to answer each others drawing. Here is a picture of my drawing.

Do you know how to calculate area?

Goal:Stay far from sickness and germs and to be clean and healthy.
We all need to wash our hands to keep away from germs and viruses. Today I am
